I Am A Jelly Doughnut

As just pointed out to me by a fellow co-worker (and fellow Eddie Izzard fan), today is the anniversary of Kennedy’s Ich Bin Ein Berliner speech.

And for my fellow Eddie Izzard fans…you then understand the title of this post.

That is all.  😛

Why Can I Hear Kelso Saying “Oooohhh Burnn???”

So, we have a new intern here at work.  He goes to the Academy of Finance in Baltimore, and is going into his senior year.  My head recognizes that he’s only 16.  He looks 25.  Yikes.  When did kids start looking so old?

Anyway, I was in the kitchen this morning with another co-worker and somehow we got on the topic of age.  I mentioned that I was going to be 37 in September and that more than likely I’d be celebrating my birthday at Trails End, partying around the campfire with my friends.  And Mr. Intern pops up and says, “Oh, cool…you and my mom are the same age.  It’s cool that you still like to do stuff like that with your friends…it’s good to act young.”

I’m going to go to the bathroom now and count my grey hairs….

Father’s Day Weekend

Double Trouble

Double Trouble

Jess and TJ came up Saturday and spent the night with us, so I got a night with my youngest grandbaby, Braelyn.  She fell in love with Sadie, and spent the weekend using her as a cuddle toy/riding toy/buddy.

Braelyn is walking now, and it’s amazing to me at how very quickly she’s growing.  She’s such a little sweetheart, but she absolutely reaffirmed our decision that children are not for us.  We just don’t have the energy to chase around after a little one.  That’s the great part about having grandbabies.  You can snuggle them and spoil them, but eventually, they get to go back home with their mommies and daddies.  🙂

Family Weekend

My step-daughter and her husband are coming up this weekend to spend Father’s Day weekend with Mr. G.  We’re excited they are coming, and I’ve spent my evenings this week cleaning up the house so I don’t feel horrible about letting my grandchild play on the floor.

I haven’t seen Jess and the baby since Christmas and I’m really looking forward to it.  Things will be quiet around here until Sunday or so, and then I promise pictures.

And the sun is finally shining.  Yay!!

Summer Off

So, after long discussions with my internal self, my wallet, and with Mr. G., I have decided to take this semester off from school and drop my class.  Honestly, I was having issues really getting into the class, and thought long and hard about taking classes when I really just wanted to focus on what I had to do for surgery this summer and what I really want out of my summer weekends.  I decided that even though it will put me back a semester, I was going to take the summer off and enjoy it, and re-enroll in the class in  August for the fall term.  For some reason, our vacation in Colorado really got me off track, and I just haven’t been able to focus at all on school, so I think it’s for the best, rather than sacrifice my poor GPA.

This means I can now spend my summer appropriately slacking off in my free time, whatever that means for me.  We’ll be spending weekends at the trailer, as much as possible, and I didn’t want to have to fight with school work down there.  Plus I can focus a little more on housework on the weekends and evenings I am home, and I don’t have to worry about how my medical testing schedule will interfere with my class schedule.

We spent a lovely weekend at the trailer – the weather was a bit overcast, but for the most part, it was really nice.  So nice, in fact, that I really want to go back next weekend, although I’m supposed to do this reunion thing with some old school friends.  We’ll see what I decide.  I also have to go up to my mother’s and pick up Mr. G’s father’s day present, but if I can get up there this week, then I can give it to him at the trailer if we decide to go.

Speaking of Father’s Day, I’ve had people ask me why I celebrate it with Mr. G, since his kids aren’t technically “my kids.”  Well, I feel that they are, and I’m proud and happy of the parent he is, and feel that should be celebrated.  I love my husband, and part of loving him means that I love the part that is a father.  And I got him something he really wanted this year.  I can’t wait to give it to him.

So, that’s that…this school slacker is signing off now.  🙂

I’m So Boring Lately

I haven’t posted too much lately, but honestly, I haven’t really been in that frame of mind.  I’m in a wee smidge of a funk, and I just can’t get myself out of it.  There’s nothing bad going on…just feeling blah.

Instead, I entertain you with pretty pictures…

Back…and So Tired

We got back on Wednesday, but we’ve been running around trying to catch up and we’re so tired it’s not even funny.  It was a hell of a trip, and I’m glad for Mr. G’s sake that we got to go for two weeks, but its just too long.  We were ready to come home by the 10th day.  Next year I think we are just going out for a week.

We were supposed to go to VA this weekend, but we were just too tired.  We decided to stay around here and get some things done around the house.  Before we left for Colorado, our old trusty dryer finally died.  We were hanging underwear all over the house to get it to dry.  So, the dryer was so old we couldn’t get a new heating element for it, and we didn’t have $400 for a new dryer.  Thanks to our friend Karen, whose neighbor happened to have a dryer she was trying to get rid of, we now have a brand new (to us) year old dryer that works wonderfully.  I’ve finally come into the 21st century – it has a light and different heat settings rather than just “off’ and “on.”  We went over and picked up the dryer yesterday.

I also got a couple of flower beds weeded, and am debating putting out a couple of pots of pansies and impatients.  I need to run to Target today to get my Vitamin D prescription filled and to check out their selection of protien bars.  I also want to sit down and get some all important homework done.  Class started while I was on vacation, and thanks to the wonders of wireless internet, I got my work done, but didn’t pay too much attention to the class discussions.  I also need to organize and order some of the 1,000 pictures we took on vacation for the scrap book.

Work starts back up tomorrow, and its back to the real world.  We are busy busy busy this month – I have some tests scheduled that I have to complete for my surgery (sleep study and cardiology) and next weekend we are heading to VA for the weekend.  The weekend after that I am going to a small reunion of the old “lunch bunch” from highschool.  I have a paper to write as well.  Life is just a blur.
