Sweet Potato Pie and Shut My Mouth

Oh, it’s Thanksgiving Week.  I love Thanksgiving.  Because this former fat girl still loves to eat.  NOM NOM NOM.

This year, it’s only going to be my husband and myself.  The rest of our family has plans, and to tell you the truth, I’m actually kind of happy it will just be Bob and I.  I don’t get nearly enough time with him, and the thought of spending the day with him alone with nothing but good food and football doesn’t hurt my feelings at all.

I have been thinking about our Thanksgiving meal for weeks.  We’re having turkey, and stuffing, and mashed potatos and corn (um, hello carbs, I’m your bitch).  I’m also baking my husband a pecan pie, and making homemade bread.  This year I’m attempting my own cranberry orange relish, and making myself a sugar free sweet potato pie.  Luckily I remembered to take the turkey out of the freezer today so I don’t have turkey popsicles on Thursday.

And then we shall watch football.

My husband leaves Friday morning to go on his annual hunting trip.  I have plans to do nothing at all.  Just me and my dog on Friday (I am NOT a Black Friday shopper).  Saturday, I’m  having a girls day with some friends.  We’re going antiquing, and to lunch, and then we’re watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (or Elf…) and gossiping.  Because yes, women do that.

So, I bid you all good eating this week.  Enjoy your family and friends.  Enjoy your food.  And give thanks, for everything you have and everything you hold dear.

Let the holidays begin.

OH – and just a quick update to my previous post – it appears I have a vit. D deficiency.  They’ve upped my D supplement and if that doesn’t work, they’ll be adding in Zoloft.  Hopefully it will get me over the hump to actually ENJOY my holidays.

Blow The Dust Off

Sorry…I know it’s been a while.  February has been a rough month and I didn’t want to come here to post, “I miss my dog I miss my dog I miss my dog,” every single day.  Kinda takes the shine off of things, ya know?

So, we are in the search for a new goggie.  We have been to the HCHS (Harford County Humane Society) and walked a few doggies there.  Unfortuantely, the dog we had our eye on was Lily, a little beagle.  She was beautiful and sweet, but they did not disclose to us BEFORE we wanted to see her that she was turned in for aggression, and on top of that had kennel cough and lymes.  Um, make her well before you put her up for adoption!  We also walked a little lab named snuggles who was good with me, but was terrified of Bob.  So, we are still looking.  We won’t go back to the Humane Society, unfortnately – they told me my cats weren’t up to date on their shots (they are, I have their certificates) but didn’t disclose to me that the dog we specifically told them we were there to look at was sick.  Sigh.  The search continues.

In other news, work has been crazy. C-R-A-Z-Y.  I am swamped and have had nothing but meetings out the hoohah.  That’s a lot of meetings folks.  I dropped my class so I could concentrate on work a bit more and relax on the weekends.  Relaxing on weekends is very important for me now.

We are starting to get ready for our annual Colorado trip.  I imagine sometime this week we’ll plot out our trip.  We’re going for two weeks again this year.  So looking forward to this trip.  We’re trying to decide on one overnight – two years ago we did Colorado Springs and Fort Robinson.  Not sure where we want to go yet this year.  Maybe Cheyenne?  I’ll research some more.  Colorado Springs was gorgeous and so much fun!  It’s gorgeous there.  We treck up to Estes Park for a day every year, and if Trail Ridge is open, I’d like to take that drive again.  We go all over the state – from the mountains way out to Sterling, into Nebraska, up into Wyoming.  So we’ll just have to see.

And and and…we discovered the best freaking Sushi restaurant this weekend in Perryville of all places.  They’ve only been open two weeks, but it was amazing!  We had their lunch special – Bob got a sushi plate, and I had three rolls – for $20!!!  Score!

So, that’s what’s new here.  What’s new with you?

It’s Love Thursday!

Another Frickin’ Snowstorm

I woke up this morning to this…

Notice the tracks in the snow – that is exactly how far the dog walked to pee.  I dutifully cleaned off my car and caught the train into work.  At which point I said, “Um, what the hell am I doing?  It’s nasty down here.”  So I collected a ton of work and took the 1:15 train home.

It had stopped snowing by then but it’s started back up.  We are supposed to get hit with 6 to 10 inches tonight.  I’m seriously OVER IT!  Done with snow.  It’s not magical and purdy.  It’s craptastic.  It really sucks when you have to commute 40 miles one way to work.  On public transportation.  I hate it.

I have enough work to stay home tomorrow if I need to (ok, let’s face it – I ain’t going in – we already have about 4 inches out there and it’s no where near done snowing).  Which means I’m trapped in the house with my darling husband.  And the History channel.  And his gun shows like American Rifleman.  I’m getting closter-snow-phobic with all this crap.  Teh bored has set it.  When that happens, I start doing things to amuse myself…like this…

Let’s just say the devil made me do it.

And I begin to torment the cats…

"I am plotting your demise...I shall follow through as soon as I figure out how to open the food cans myself."

And take pictures of my husband in compromising positions….

"You're not posting that on facebook are you?"

And instead of drying off the dog, I take pictures of her first (yes, I DID dry her off)…

Oh Hai

I have too many blogs – it’s hard to keep up with posting to all of them.  I have been keeping up with my 365 day photo blog though, and have enjoyed making myself refine my photography skills.

Today we have football on tap, although I will admit, I don’t really have too much interest in either game.  I’m (*cough*) unbelievably routing for the Patriots today – although as for the rest of the AFC I’m routing for the Steelers.  I could care less who wins the NFC game today.  I want the Steelers to win it all.  I’ll route for anyone who can beat the Packers.  I plan on reading today and have a big old pot of beef barley soup on the stove.  Sundays are so relaxing.

Classes start back up later this week.  In the meantime, I plan on finishing up a couple of novels.  I have tomorrow off to relax.  Mr. G goes back to the cardiologist tomorrow and I’m hoping we get some answers.  Other than that, nada going on and I’m going to enjoy it.  I have a feeling class this semester is gonna be ugly.

So…what’s new by you?

Not. Fun.

So, yeah. First of all – I’m bored with the 30 day meme. Bored. Yup. Executive decision made to discontinue.

Second, Mr. G totally scared the shit out of me yesterday. SCARED. THE. SHIT. OUT. OF. ME.

Sunday afternoon, he looks over and says, “What did it feel like when you had your heart attack?”

“Well,” says he, “I’ve been having some weird sensations in my chest, like my heart is fluttering.”

“No no…I’m ok. I feel fine. It’s gone away. I just wanted to know what it felt like when you had a heart attack.”

“I’m ok – football is on.”

So, I made him promise to keep his appointment with his primary care on the 3rd.

Queue yesterday.

“Feel my pulse – my pulse keeps stopping and then starting up again.”

OMFG…queue panicked Bea. He was pale (which isn’t easy for a mexican man), clammy, and his heart rate was all over the place. GETINTHECAR or I CALL THE AMBULANCE.

So, off we went to Harford Memorial, where, to their credit, they took him right back, got him on an EKG and drew blood. And by the way, can someone please tell me why in the hooha ER rooms are so freaking cold? Anyhoo – his EKG was normal (but so was mine the day I had my heart attack) and his blood work was perfect. So, they think he has either an SVT or an AVT – heart arrhythmia. He has to go into the cardiologist today to get hooked up with a heart monitor for the next few days. They say that the arrhythmia is generally something that is pretty safe, BUT can be known to throw clots. It can also be the result of CAD, diabetes, or high blood pressure. So, yeah. Can also explain the problems we’ve had with ED.

Y’all, my husband is the center of my universe. Send some good Ts&Ps our way until we find out what’s going on.

Today is my last day at work for a week.  We aren’t GOING anywhere (except maybe down to Casa de Pollo next weekend) but we are having family come visit us.  I decided it would be rude of me to work while they are here – and far be it for me to be rude (shuddap peanut gallery) – so I took the week off.  Which means today, I’m busting my butt to get my fraud reports done before I go – and that hasn’t exactly been successful…LOL

I’m looking forward to the visit from family.  Bob’s Aunt and Uncle are coming – their first time to the East Coast.  They are coming with Bob’s cousin Gene and his wife Stacy – who married into the family about the same time I did.  We have a bond that way – marrying into the world’s largest family (I kid…I kid…only a little) is a bit intimidating, so we are kindred souls that way.

Of course, that also means I’ve been cleaning my house like mad, and planning meals, and worrying about getting places and doing things next week…but hey…Vacation is RELAXING, right?  Right?  RIGHT?

So, I promise lots of pictures with family next week.  We’re going to do all kinds of touristy things.  We’re going to Gettysburg and DC.  I hope we don’t lose Bob’s 4’0″ Aunt in DC…that might be a bad thing.

See ya soon!
